Cranfield University is seeking a highly motivated graduate to undertake this exciting research project. JEB Engineering Design Limited is a leading company within domestic electrical sector and medical device sector, focused on precision press tool design and manufacture coupled with component manufacture. This project is part of a current initiative in the company aimed at improving the quality of components produced in JEB. This online inspection will detect component faults at early stage to decide whether consequent production steps should be carried out.
This project aims to develop an online inspection system for quantify control within precision tool production process. The project will include:
- Understand the quality issues within production of the precision tool;
- Develop an inspection solution of quality control for the component being produced.
- Develop full specification for the inspection system against quality control requirements.
- Develop a prototype of the online inspection system.
The successful applicant will be based at the JEB premises in Mildenhall, UK, however s/he will be working with a combination of both company and Cranfield staff on a regular basis.
Entry Requirements
Applicants should have 2.1 or above UK honours degree, or equivalent, in a relevant discipline such as mechatronics, instrumentation, metrology, physics, quality engineering, manufacturing and mechanical engineering. Experience of developing optical measurement system and image processing program would be preferred.
Funding
*Supported by LowCarbonKeep Scheme and JEB Engineering Design Limited, this studentship will cover the tuition feesat the UK/EU rate only and provide a bursary of up to £12,000 for one year depending upon qualifications and experience.
