POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Genomics Shared Facility is searching for a Research Technician C to develop and implement protocols on an automated liquid handling system for the express purpose of increasing throughput of sample preparation for Massively Parallel Sequencing Instruments. This position requires great attention to detail, independent problem solving and the ability to clearly document and report on tasks performed and challenges faced. Additional goals are to ensure consistency and quality of such protocols, and to perform all other related duties as assigned.
Duties will include:
- Convert manual protocols to automated protocols on an Automated Liquid Handling System. This will require learning the current manual protocols, writing scripts to automate these protocols and testing the new automated protocols with control samples.
- Improve protocols to reduce reagent use on an automated system
- Improve scripts to increase sample throughput on an automated system
- Run maintenance scripts and test pipetting accuracy on automated equipment
- Process samples with the new automated protocols
- Perform other duties as directed

B.A. or B.S. in Biology or a related science or equivalent skills and experience required; M.A./M.S. preferred
- At least two years of professional lab experience required, with laboratory automation experience, specifically with scripting, as opposed to operating existing scripts required

Accurate pipetting skills and clear understanding of basic molecular biology techniques required

Ability to diagnose and solve problems related to automation equipment and operating software for that equipment required

Ability to maintain log of activities related to script development, troubleshooting and sample processing required

Must have superior written and verbal communication skill, as well as, the ability to work well independently and as part of a team
