POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Neuroscience department is seeking a Research Technician B to participate in work directed at the therapy of central nervous system diseases, including Tay Sachs disease. Studies using cell culture and animal models will seek to identify corrective mechanisms and test treatment of strategies employing gene therapy, protein replacement and cell transplantation. The Technician should understand written scientific protocols and basic project goals and rationale.

Laboratory work will include:

  • preparation of primary cell cultures, neural cultures, handling of transgenic mice including injections, in situ perfusions and genotyping recombinant molecular biology
  • vital fluorescence assays on living specimens
  • immunocytochemistry and histology
  • confocal imaging and digital image analysis
  • prepare solutions, maintain laboratory inventory and order supplies as needed

Job Requirements

  • B.A. or B.S. in a related science or equivalent skills and experience. Biology or Neuroscience, Biochemistry or Molecular Genetics course work a plus
