The incumbent in this position will perform a wide range of laboratory duties including, but not limited to cell culture, generation and purification of monoclonal antibodies, immunoblots, breeding of experimental animal models (mostly rodents), molecular biology (including genetic engineering, using modern RNA techniques and quantitative Rt-PCR to analyze gene expression), immunohistochemistry and histology.. The incumbent also assists PI and the assigned postdoctoral fellow(s) in the investigation of (i) stem cell integration into mammalian retina, and (ii) role of epigenetics in retinal development and regeneration. The incumbent will maintain detailed records of all experiments, analyze data, general laboratory maintenance, including ordering supplies, small and large equipment, talking to vendors/negotiating prices, laboratory stocks maintenance (antibodies, plasmids, experimental mouse lines, tissue culture stock vials, restriction enzymes, other molecular biology stocks), maintaining cleanliness, and perform literature searches. A Bachelor’s degree and knowledge of basic concepts in molecular biology, biochemistry and genetics are required. Previous experience of working in the molecular biology lab focused on retina preferred. Good social and communication skills required. Master of Science degree is preferred.
