Sandia National Laboratories is the nation's premier science and engineering lab for national security and technology innovation with major facilities in Albuquerque, New Mexico and Livermore, California.  We are a world-class team of scientists, engineers, technologists, post docs, and visiting researchers all focused on cutting-edge technology, ranging from homeland defense, global security, biotechnology, and environmental preservation to energy and combustion research, computer security, and nuclear defense.  To learn more, please visit our website at www.sandia.gov.  We are searching for a Post Doc Appointee for the Biomass Science and Conversion Technology Department at the Livermore facility.

A postdoctoral position in the Biomass Science and Conversion Technologies Department is available immediately to conduct research in multi-scale multi-physics modeling of complex lignocellulosic systems. The candidate will use combined ab initio calculations and molecular dynamic simulation (LAMMPS, CHARMM, AMBER, GROMOS etc.) approaches to gain mechanistic insight of ionic liquid (IL) pretreatment process, IL-enzyme interactions, and IL-water mixed solvent systems (miscibility, thermodynamic and transport properties). The candidate will also develop cheminformatics approaches for predicting structure-property relationships of ionic liquids and structural bioinfomatics approaches for predicting the IL tolerance of lignocellulolytic enzymes. The candidate will work closely with other scientists and engineers who are working in the area of biomass deconstruction for clean sugar production.

Recent PhD in computational chemistry, computational biology, physical chemistry, biophysics or applied mathematics, is required.  Expertise in ab initio calculations and molecular dynamic simulation; demonstrated track record of publishing in peer-reviewed scientific literature and strong independent-research portfolio; strong interpersonal and communication skills; and ability to work with multi-disciplinary teams.
