Job Description

Fondazione Eni Enrico Mattei (FEEM – link: www.feem.it/) is looking for a qualified and motivated researcher to fill one position in the field of Climate Change Adaptation Modelling. The candidates will join the team working in the area of “Climate Change Adaptation in Coastal Areas” ([email protected]) a research program aimed at understanding and interpreting the current societal changes in response to the challenges for adaptating to climate change. The research aims at answering key questions concerning the multi-scale relationships between global drivers and local dynamics of adaptation.

The following research areas and competences are foreseen to complement those of the group already established with the launch of the new research programme in January 2022.

Big data in simulations, ideally involving decision-making by agents with bounded rationality/cognitive biases. Self-aware agents in multi-agent systems or agent-based models. Ideally, experience in coupling spatial (GIS) data and ABM platforms, but not a requirement.

FEEM has strong ties with a worldwide network of research institutions engaged in economic research and provides excellent opportunities to focus on research and disseminate results in international conferences and stakeholders’ events.

The selected applicants will be based in Venice (Italy) and will primarily focus on research projects. The candidate will also be asked to contribute to internal activities, such as the organization of seminars, and to participate in conferences, workshops, and stakeholders’ events. As part of his/her duties, the candidate will have to finalize the research efforts in scientific articles, book chapters, and also in nontechnical products for societal impact like policy briefs.

The job assignment is expected to begin as soon as possible. Gross salary is competitive with national standards and will be based on qualification and experience.

The research activities of the [email protected] program are primarily empirical and relate to the spheres of environmental economics and integrated modelling. A background with solid quantitative skills, as demonstrated by the achievement of at least an MSc in a subject area related to the job description is compulsory and may range from economics, to environmental sciences, engineering, or physics. A PhD degree is not compulsory but is highly valued.
The ideal candidate
• is familiar with advanced approaches to modelling social and ecological systems, in particular in the field of multi agent systems;
• has solid quantitative background in statistics and mathematics, and sufficient command of popular statistical packages, such as R, and/or geographical ones, such as QGIS;
• can operate in an international context with English as a working language;
• is highly committed in developing a research project;
• can work independently.
