The Division of Infectious Diseases at the University of Pittsburgh is seeking an International Laboratory Liaison for a unique and exciting opportunity to support lab capacity strengthening and protocol implementation for a large multi-national project in sub-Saharan Africa in the areas of HIV prevention, diagnostics and drug resistance.
Responsibilities will include but are not limited to: (1) Updating the laboratory sections of the project manual of operations, study specific procedures and other lab management plans; (2) Ensuring certifications and accreditation records for all laboratories are current and maintained; (3) Overseeing quality control (QC) and quality assurance (QA) procedures for study and laboratory data; (4) Establishing and maintaining a documentation and archival process for laboratories’ documents, results and records; and (5) Maintaining a sample management system.
The ideal candidate will have excellent communication skills, meticulous organizational skills, a passion for HIV prevention and the desire to do something truly meaningful for the world. Clinical lab background or a background in virology or molecular biology is preferred. Ability to travel to sub-Saharan Africa, 1-2 times per year, is required.
Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted. A background in clinical laboratory, virology and/or molecular biology is preferred.
