Med-Computational and Systems Biology – Pennsylvania-Pittsburgh – (23000038)

The University of Pittsburgh Department of Computational and Systems Biology is seeking a Research Specialist. The incumbent will be working in The Carvunis Lab in close collaboration with staff, students, and postdocs. Research in The Carvunis Lab explores the molecular mechanisms of innovation during the evolution of biological systems, with a focus on de novo gene emergence. Responsibilities will include designing and carrying out experiments using yeast as a model organism as well as organization of experimental reagents and protocols. The incumbent is required to have experience in general molecular biology (i.e. molecular cloning). Experience with yeast genetics, fluorescence microscopy, or computer programming (e.g. MATLAB, R) would be considered a plus but is not required. Attention to detail and excellent organizational and record keeping skills are a must. Incumbent must be a team player.

Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Biochemistry, or related field. Two to three years of relevant experience required. Experience working in molecular biology and knowledge of yeast genetics are required for the position. This experience may have been acquired in the context of undergraduate internships or in a professional context. Independence and strong organizational skills are required. Equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted per university guidelines.
