Post-Doctoral Research Position in ToK in process and products development on Extraction and formulation intensification processes for natural actives of wine

Job Description

We offer one position for 24 months to work on WineSense project at the Universidad de Valladolid, Spain. The position is funded by the European Commission under the Marie Curie IAPP PIAP-GA-2013-612208, project WineSense ( ).

The WineSense project proposes to improve the extraction process to catch most of the active parts of the polyphenols (presents in grapes), to define a suitable formulation for pharmaceutical applications, food, and cosmetics additives based on Solvent Free Microwave Extraction (SMFE), Microwave Assisted Extraction (MAE), and emulsion-Template techniques combining high pressure and antisolvent effects. Those are techniques developed for analytical purposes that are being implemented in production processes.

The University of Valladolid participles in WineSense project as coordinator, led by Chair Prof. María José Cocero, head of the excellence research group on High Pressure Process Engineering ( , one of the most active and successful research groups of the Universidad de Valladolid.

The University of Valladolid (UVa) is one of the most important centers of Higher Education in Spain ( ). It offers more than 100 degrees, 80 doctoral programs (14 of them with honors) and 68 graduate degrees. Furthermore, the main scientific facilities of the UVa are spread over 4 different campuses and have more than 5.000 researchers with demonstrated capacity, 1 Science Park, 1 European Projects Office, 1 Technology Transfer Office, 4 buildings dedicated exclusively to R&D, 4 Certified Laboratories for the Industry, almost 300 Research Laboratories, 19 Research Institutes and 5 Associates Research Centers.

Successful candidates must hold a PhD (<10 years experienced researcher) in chemical engineering or other relevant discipline.

We are especially looking for candidates (f/m) with research experience in:

·         Knowledge and Technology Transfer in product development

·         Process and product development

·         Demonstration scale design

Furthermore, other demonstrable experience would be highly desirable in:

·         Full economics to enable subsequent exploitation and business plans.

·         Pharmaceutical and/or cosmetic industries.

Other skills: interest in quantitative research, strong analytical skills, ability for independent and critical thinking, and excellent communication and writing skills in the English language are a prerequisite.
