Research Project Manager

Job Description

The University of Pittsburgh is currently seeking a qualified candidate to fill the Research Project Manager position in the Chemistry department. This position will serve as project manager with duties to include the day-to-day administration of research studies related to the UPCMLD chemical plant library synthesis; the planning and design of research protocols as well as the training of graduate students in the laboratory. The incumbent will work in a chemical laboratory with state-of-the-art combinatorial chemistry instrumentation and will be responsible and involved in computational chemistry, chemo- and bioinformatics, structure based drug design, combinatorial library design, quantum mechanics and molecular mechanics, and bioinformatic, synthesis, purification, analysis, storage and distribution of library compounds. The incumbent will be independent in finding appropriate literature sources to execute new chemical processes and devise solutions for problematic transformations. Must work with the Assistant and Associate Director of theCMLD in the selection of appropriate chemical substituents on library scaffolds in order to increase the drug-like character of library compounds. This process requires experience in medicinal chemistry at a pharmaceutical company or appropriate biotechnology company. The incumbent must also train and supervise the notebook keeping of other CMLD staff and insure it passes the requirements for US patent filing. Incumbent will assist with grant applications and reports, review manuscripts and monitor project spending, and will be involved in collaborative interactions with biologists. Management experience is essential.
