Med-Computational and Systems Biology – Pennsylvania-Pittsburgh – (22006863)
The University of Pittsburgh’s Department of Computational and Systems Biology is seeking a motivated college graduate with previous research experience in biological sciences or bioengineering and a strong interest to join The Robin E. C. Lee Lab of Cellular Dynamics and Molecular Circuits. Research in the lab uses molecular, computational, and systems biology to investigate signal transduction in single cells associated with inflammatory diseases and cancer. This Research Specialist will conduct NIH-funded research under direct guidance of the Principal Investigator and provide support for other lab personnel. On a daily basis, responsibilities will be to perform experiments, record and interpret data, participate in experimental design, and perform day-to-day lab maintenance. Previous experiences with a combination of fluorescence microscopy, computer programming (e.g. MATLAB, Python), or microfluidics and Arduino would be considered a plus, but are not required.
Attention to detail, basic computer skills, and excellent organizational and skills are a must. Incumbent must be a team player. The Lee lab works with human cell cultures as a model system. Experience in cell biology and molecular genetics is required, and the incumbent will have the opportunity to gain skills in quantitative microscopy, custom image analysis pipelines, in addition to the design and implementation of microfluidic cell culture control systems. Applicants with advanced degrees and significant amount of relevant experience are also encouraged to apply with the potential for commensurate adjustments to title and compensation.
Baccalaureate degree in biological sciences, bioengineering, or a sub-field thereof. Coursework in cell biology, molecular biology, and genetics. Experience with programming, design and implementation of microfluidic techniques is valued but not required. Independent laboratory research experience in biology at undergraduate level or research job.
